The Times: Menorca’s having a big moment — and this is how to see it

Roughly translating as “hidden spot” in the Menorcan dialect, Amagatay is just that. A 15-minute drive inland from Mahon and set behind a nondescript gate, it’s a 19th-century farmhouse of thick whitewashed walls and buttery stone.

The footprint of the farm has been maintained, so the 20-suite retreat is made up of existing buildings that have been recycled. The stables are home to private suites with their own gardens, an arched outhouse has become the shower and bathrooms next to the expansive infinity pool, and the old slaughterhouse has been turned into a bar. Poured-concrete floors and neutral surfaces are complemented by jute rugs and raw linen in earthy colours. There is a yoga platform, walking trails spider outwards through the olive groves, and funeral caves date from Talayotic times.
